Using your NERG e-mail address

To get an email address please send Greg VK3VT an email ("callsign" @nerg.asn.au)  He will set it up for you and get back to you with details including the password.

You can change the set password by signing on to the webmail login and before selecting a client there are a number of options available, including change password.  You may notice that there is also a "forwarding" option, this allows you to set forwarding so that emails to the nerg address are sent forward to another email address.

There are three ways you can use your NERG e-mail address:

  1. Have it forwarded to another e-mail address such as fred@bigpond.com. This can be a very useful feature as it allows you to have a single e-mail address independant of a particular service provider - change service provider and change the forwarding - you continue to get all your e-mails.
  2. Use any popular email  program  to send and receive e-mail - our server is capable of  'pop-3' and 'imap'.
  3. Use the NERG provided webmail system to access your mail from any computer from anywhere in the world. We have found this to be reasonably fast from anywhere in the world as the site is hosted in the USA and all countries usually have fast connections to there.

Options 2 & 3 can be used together - as most e-mail programs can be set to leave mail on the server for a period after downloading it (pop3)

How to activate the options:

1. Forwarding to another account

You can set up, modify or delete forwarding by logging on to  webmail and selecting the option before selecting an email client. Alternatively send an e-mail to Greg VK3VT (callsign@nerg.asn.au) with the details of the address you want fordarding to go to and he will arrange it - likewise to change or remove forwarding.

2. Using an e-mail program

You need to set up your pop-3 or imap account details.

Secure SSL/TLS Settings (Recommended)

Username: callsign@nerg.asn.au
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: general.vivawebhost.com
  • IMAP Port: 993
  • POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: general.vivawebhost.com
  • SMTP Port: 465
IMAP, POP3, and SMTP require authentication.

Using the NERG webmail system:

  1. Go to www.nerg.asn.au/webmail/ - this link is on the old NERG homepage as NERG Members web-mail log-in.
  2. The log-in id is your complete NERG e-mail address - callsign@nerg.asn.au and the password is that allocated.
  3. There are three clients you can choose from, I prefer roundcube.
  4. That's it just type your e-mails and send them off.

Well good luck using your NERG e-mail address and please let Greg VK3VT know if you are having problems.
