2015   Vic   Foxhunt   championships

The 2015 VK3 championships were held on Saturday 16th May. Teams were expected to find foxes on “the championship” bands of 80M, 10M, 6M, 2M, 70CM and 23CM.

Hunting started south east of the city near Lysterfield Park and finished in Ringwood. The first hunt (Hunt 1) was three legs transmitting at the same time, two legs were on 2M and the other on 70CM. Two of these spots were easily driven to, but the third, a 2M leg, required hounds to get out and sniff! The fox was laying on the ground on an isthmus at a water retarding lake. Ewen VK3OW decided the short cut through the lake was the fastest way in – he was wet up to his tummy!!  Bruce also took the water route. Dispite these heroics, Steve from the OW team arrived at the fox just about the same time Ewen did

Next came a two legger (Hunt 2), 80M followed by 1296MHz; afternoon tea was served after this event. Unusually, there did not seem to be any difficulty in hearing the 23CM signal.

The hounds then chased 6M and 10M(hunt 3). This hunt was followed by dinner at a pub in Ferntree Gully.

Once the hounds had completed dinner they  launched into the infamous night hunt (Hunt 4) – 2M, 70CM, 6M and finishing with 10M. It could not have been that bad for they were all at the supper location before 10:30.

After a supper of hot savouries, cake and other good stuff, the results were announced.

The idea was to get the lowest score so Ewen VK3OW and his team were the winners of the 2015 Victorian Foxhunt Championships. Congratulations Ewen, Henk, Stephen and Dianne..

                              L to R Henk VK3BLI, Steve VK3YXO, Ewen VK3OW Dianne VK3VXN                                                                The Hounds!!

Many thanks to the team of foxes that operated like a well oiled machine and kept the signals up and the hounds entertained. These were Doug VK3JDO, Kristian VK3FDAC, Jono VK3JPM and Dennis VK3BQZ. Dennis came all the way from Lara to help out and was able to supply a signal on any band required. It was a good thing that he remembered to turn off his APRS otherwise the hounds would have been able to look up his location on the internet and just drive there!!
