Get Your Licence
Standard and Advanced Licences:
The NERG runs classes over a period of around 14 weeks for people wishing to get their Standard or Advanced Licence. The syllabus for these licences is available on the ACMA web site. Check out https://www.acma.gov.au/amateur-radio-resources
We run these Advanced Courses each year commencing in mid to late February for approximately 17 weeks.
Individual Exams:
The NERG can run Standard and Advanced exams on the same days as foundation training and assessment, so please email us to register your interest
We also have several authorised assessors that can organise an exam for you if required once again email us for details
Regular Foundation training and assessment days
The club runs regular Foundation training and assessment days these are run on a Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Briar Hill Community Hall, Briar Hill, Victoria. Currently we run these on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Training covers some very basic radio theory, safety, interference issues, regulations, and practical aspects of putting together an amateur radio station and making contacts. The assessment consists of a 25 question multiple choice exam on the above subjects, and a practical assessment on setting up an amateur radio station and making some contacts.
The course is free for NERG Members; non-members $35 which includes
• Training (Most of Saturday),
• Morning and afternoon tea,
• Hall hire costs etc,
• Saturday lunch (Please bring your own special dietary needs, fridge available),
There is a Foundation Manual available from us for $20
There is no cost for the exam or practical assessment. Assessment results will be available on the day and will be sent to the ACMA who will contact successful candidates, offering to issue a Recognition Certificate ($45) and a callsign ($32-54). there is no ongoing or annual licence fee.
Those that don’t pass the assessment or would like more time before attempting the exams or assessment are welcome to attend further NERG Foundation training days at no additional cost.

Some basic experience using two-way radios or electronics can be useful, but the training assumes no previous experience.
